ABOUT SAHAJA YOGA

There is an innate spirituality in every culture which finds an expression in its traditions, literature, languages and saintly scholars. Many great incarnations, seers and saints all over the world have sacrificed and contributed for the evolution of human beings; which gave rise to different religions. The basic underlying teaching of all these religions, however, is same; namely that human beings must rise above their ego and illusions and get Self-Realization (Atma Sakshatkar). This process is the final leap in the history of human evolution which, in fact is the Divine intention of creation of human life.

Realizing that without Self-Realization and experience of the light of our inner self, humanity as a race will not be able to get rid of the multiple problems of their material life, H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi founded Sahaja Yoga in May 5, 1970 and started the practice of en-mass Self-Realization. Sahaja Yoga meditation is presently being followed in over 120 countries around the world and lot of people have gained the actual experience of Self-Realization.

The All-pervading Power of God Almighty is inherent in every human being in the form of Kundalini (shape of serpent coil) which, however, is dormant. When awakened, a person feels the rewarding experience of his inner being (Atman). This itself constitutes Yoga (Union) with the Divine Power which then gets activated in human body. This is what is often called as "Enlightenment" by which the person ascends to a new higher form of consciousness and enriches his worldly life in all the fields. By the grace of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, this just happens and hence is known as Sahaja or Spontaneous.

The next step in our collective evolution

This inner awakening is called by many names: Self Realization, Second Birth, Enlightenment, Liberation, Moksha, Satori and it is the goal of all religions and spiritual traditions of the world. This knowledge is ancient, but for a long time it was available only to a few souls, being kept secret and transmitted from guru to disciple, since Self Realization was extremely difficult to achieve. In these modern times, through Sahaja ("spontaneous") Yoga ("union with one's Self"), this experience has become effortless and available to everyone, for the first time in the history of human spirituality.

The advent of Sahaja Yoga was prophesized a long time ago in many of the world's spiritual traditions and religions. At the same time, in these modern times many seekers of Truth have been deluded into following various false, self-proclaimed "gurus" who are either money or power oriented, but not Spirit oriented.

Through the practice of Sahaja Yoga, our awareness gains a new dimension where absolute truth can be felt tangibly - on our central nervous system. As a result of this happening, our spiritual ascent takes place effortlessly and physical, mental and emotional balance are achieved as a byproduct of this growth of our awareness.

We then realize that we are not this body, mind, ego, conditionings, emotions or intellect, but something of an eternal nature which is always residing in our heart in a pure, undisturbed state - the Self or Spirit. The Spirit is the source of true knowledge, peace and joy. Self Realization is the actualization of this connection with our Spirit, which as Shri Mataji advocates, is the birthright of every human being.

"It is important for everyone to have that knowledge of the roots within ourselves. Sahaja Yoga allows the individual to become his own Spiritual Guide." -- Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Swadisthan Chakra: The Second Energy Center
God, Divinity, Spirit etc. have always been subjects of spiritual pursuits by keen students of philosophy of life  from  time  immemorial. All
learned saints and scholars  have  written extensive literature and texts of their teachings and theories. Very few, however, got the actual experience of Self-Realization.
The manifestation of the Kundalini is called Vibrations, which is an approximate translation of the Sanskrit term Chaitanya. Shri Mataji explained that Chaitanya (Vibrations) is the integrated force of our physiological, mental, emotional and religious Selves.
